Questions To Ask Your Wedding DJ – Columbus, OH

Wedding Day Calendar

Getting married soon? Hiring your wedding DJ should be a positive experience. It shouldn’t be stressful, exhausting, or a lot of work. Even though it’s part of the wedding planning process, you have other things to focus on. But with no referrals, who do you turn to? How do you decide?

We’ve come up with some of the most popular Questions To Ask A Wedding DJ to-date. Feel free to print out these questions when meeting with a potential Professional Wedding DJ so you know the right questions to ask.

Do you have my date open?
This is by far one of our most frequently asked question. It’s also the first question you should ask your prospective wedding DJ. To check our availability, you can do so by using the link below:

Can we meet before our wedding?
Yes! A reputable DJ will have no problem with this. Every DJ is different. Interacting with them face-to-face will not only help you both in your decision-making process but will give you peace of mind…which means one less thing to stress about on your wedding day!

Do you offer a written contract?
Yes! A written agreement is extremely important so that both parties know what you’re agreeing to. Should there be an issue that arises, you have the signed contract.

How long have you been a DJ? How much experience do you have as a wedding DJ?
Unfortunately, nowadays with DJ equipment so easily available, anyone can buy some gear and call themselves a “DJ”. It takes much more than that. Ask him/her….are you a full-time professional DJ? Or do you just do this as a part-time hobby? How many weddings have you done this year?

What sets you apart from the competition?
The quality of our equipment and attention to detail…not to mention EXPERIENCE! You’ll be searching quite awhile to find someone with more experience than J.T. Michaels. He’s performed at American weddings, Latino weddings, Greek weddings, Irish weddings, Jewish weddings, Asian weddings, Same-Sex and Gay weddings, Destination weddings, Military weddings, Double weddings, Vow Renewal weddings, and more! With over 20 years of experience providing DJ services in multiple states at hundreds of wedding venues, there’s a reason J.T. Michaels is one of the BEST around!

Can we see you “in action” or in person at an event?
We are asked this quite often, actually. While we’re happy to have you attend a public event we’re providing entertainment for, the majority of gigs we do are private parties (weddings, birthdays, graduations, etc). It would be considered unprofessional to invite potential clients to someone else’s wedding to watch us work. Feel free to check out videos/photos from previous events, though.

Do you have references available?
Yes! Recent references should be an important part of the hiring process and highly recommended. We’re happy to provide you with them upon request.

What type of music do you have?
An experienced wedding DJ should have a wide variety of music. After all, every wedding is different. Some have younger crowds that prefer only the latest Top 40 hits while others may have an older crowd wanting something completely different. The majority of weddings will have both. That’s where experience comes in. A good DJ knows this and should be able to read the crowd, blending the different styles of music together, and creating a fun atmosphere for all. Helping him/her come up with a  wedding DJ playlist in advance also helps.

What equipment do you have?
The best mobile entertainment is nothing without professional DJ gear to back it up. Having the right tools for the job is essential. We only use pro audio & lighting. Some of the name-brand gear we carry include QSC, EV, Ultimate Support, Odyssey, Gator, Chauvet Lighting, Denon, Pioneer, American DJ, Samson, and more.

When will you arrive to set up?
Another great question. The idea of showing up 15 minutes early to set everything up is just unrealistic. A professional wedding DJ will arrive at least one hour in advance (preferably 2-3 hours) to ensure everything is in proper working order and that all cables are secure. Some events require more advanced planning than others. There’s traffic congestion, new venues to get acquainted with, finalizing details with staff members, and many other things to consider. Arriving well ahead of time means less stress for everyone.

Do you take requests?
Yes! We encourage both wedding couples and their guests to provide song requests and feedback. This helps make your wedding more lively because these are the songs you want to hear/dance to!

Are you insured?
Yes! We are insured 100%. We carry a $2 million liability policy and we’re happy to provide you or your venue a certificate.

Do you have a wireless mic?
Yes! We have several. For most events, we have up to six wireless mics on-hand. For your wedding ceremony, a small wireless lavalier mic is provided for the officiant to wear. Inside, at your reception, at least one wireless handheld mic will be available for the toasts/speeches, typically one for the prayer, and a dedicated mic for your DJ/emcee.

Are there any other services you provide?
Yes! You can rent a DJ for your wedding (or any other event), but we also have karaoke, photo booth rental, LED uplights (uplighting) and more! Contact us for details!

Do you require a deposit to book you?
Yes. Unlike some mobile DJ companies that demand 50% of the total balance, we only ask for a $100 deposit. This amount is applied towards your balance and is used to reserve the date of your wedding. You can book your DJ by using the online payment link below:

We certainly hope these questions help prepare you for your special day. We realize there are many more questions that could be added, but to avoid overwhelming you, we’ve chosen the most commonly asked by us from over the years. Good luck in your wedding DJ search!
